Offered by Heritage Auctions as a part of the Shoshana Collection, three ancient Judean coins have been sold at a sum of nearly $3 million. The entire collection is comprised of over 1800 coins, is expected to draw almost $10 million. The three coins sold on March 8th and 9th, 2012 includes the first silver shekel to have been struck in Jerusalem as a rebellion against Roman oppression in the first century CE and is one of two specimen known worldwide. Also part of the trio is the extremely rare gold Aureus of Titus depicted as Caesar issued between 69 and 79 CE and the silver quarter shekel issued in 66-67 CE. The gold Aureus was struck in the year 69 CE while the silver quarter shekel, like the silver shekel, is one of only two known specimens.
